Youth Team

It all started when…

We received funding from the BC gov to develop a leadership component to the existing RR program. This would be an after school weekly training program to enhance and build skills among the youth in terms of Leadership, Self-Awareness, Facilitation Skills, and Social Activism.

The training program is constantly being developed, reviewed and evaluated. We have found that providing a safe space for the youth to share their perspectives of the topics each week, along with some experiential learning, and skill development has been transformative in the lives of the youth.

The youth who are in the training program have the option of joining the facilitators in the classroom to co-facilitate the RR presentations. They sit alongside the adult facilitators and help to integrate the learning of the content by asking questions of the group, by noticing and communicating when it seems that clarity is needed, assisting the adult facilitators by presenting material that they are totally comfortable in, and in both the preparation and the post evaluation of each class.

Why become a youth facilitator?

You get to push yourself out of your comfort zones, develop yourself in managing your effectiveness in your interpersonal skills. You get grad credit to go toward credits needed to graduate. You get a $300 honorarium for completing the training. You can use the training as experience on your resume. You might make some lifelong friends. You might learn so much about yourself, that you will benefit for perhaps the rest of your life.
